Chapter 3
Why nothing has worked
We’ve become a world of dabblers. Information is coming at us at such a pace, that it’s no small wonder that we can hardly keep our focus on a given task for more than a few minutes. Of course, we have the best intentions when we look for the next shiny object to focus on. I used to be like that when it came to learning. I would buy a book and I would read it… - sometimes not to completion, and then I would buy another book by an author who was supposed to be THE SHIT. I can show you my kindle account. There are well over 100 books and while many were a good read, I have a confession to make.
I could read, and yes, I could even understand academically. - But did I integrate any of this great knowledge into my life? - I’m not so sure I did. Many books could teach us many great lessons, but we need to immerse ourselves, make them our own and allow them, to influence our behaviors through dedicated study of the self. As we begin to understand our behaviors better, we also begin to understand the behaviors of the people in our worlds and can position ourselves better in those worlds.
If we’re talking about a transformation, ask yourself how many different diets you’ve tried. Ask yourself how many different workouts you have tried out. How many of these did you assimilate into who you are? I get that a poorly chosen gym program that was designed by someone who is competing for a Mr. Olympia contest would lead to burnout. - Perhaps we need to take more time in choosing, and then, once chosen, we should try our very best to stick to the roadmap as it has been laid out in front of us.
In my coaching practice, I quickly know who is going to be reaping the rewards the Thorfit Systems. These are the people who are prepared to suspend their disbelief and trust the guide, make corrections as they go. They will rely on feedback and keep on keeping on. Then there are those who will nod in agreement, but will know a little better; and when the results are as diluted as their commitment to the course, they will infer that the course is not for them.
Chapter 4
Adventure calls
-the hero discovers the guide
So you, the hero, had something about your life that you wanted to correct. The obvious reasons may have been concerning your health. Perhaps you were feeling down after a tumultuous year and not sure where to head out from here and figured that a little makeover in your mentality would do the trick. While I can't tell you exactly why you chose to undertake this journey, what I can do, is draw your attention to some of the stepping stones you will encounter along the way.
To return to our storyboard in which you are the hero, the reason you took this CHALLENGE was to address an issue you needed to overcome. Often, this would be a superficial need but would underscore a more basal survival need.
If, for example, your belly feels distended and you are carrying a lot of fat around your kidneys, the basic need to address would be that of health. Poor health leads to a shorter life. But the topic of poor health is not an urgent one and seldom spurs us to take immediate action. Let's say your health may not be excellent, but you're going through a divorce as I did some time ago. Suddenly you recognize the need for company, something we as humans desperately need and want. It's how we're made. We want to be attractive to the opposite sex. Suddenly a set of neatly chiseled abs isn't such a bad idea anymore. After all, a trim figure will at least get you through her door. (in a manner of speaking) the next layer to regaining your abs is that your self-respect will return. You will start feeling capable again. This builds confidence, and soon you become less fearful of your actions. We think we're very complicated creatures, but at the end of the day, some of the most complex psychological issues can be mended with a change in your body. Trust me on this. It's where I came from. I would urge you to make changes before you hit rock bottom. Remember that things can always get better, and yes, they can also get worse.
Let's look at the idea of Abs, for instance.
Having Abs is fantastic! It doesn't make you stronger or more intelligent, but having them is the hallmark of a good body. Abs give you unparalleled confidence. I've worked with many good peeps in my life, and most of them have only ever thought to have arrived when their abs began to show. I am going to help you find that perfectly chiseled set of abs, and this, my friends, will ignite you in ways you never thought, and yes, it will get you laid more for sure.
You're going to build muscle
I don't care what your muscle-building goals are. Whether you want the lean look of a surfer or you are looking to pack on some serious mass, you still need to understand how to build muscle. Here's why... muscle is your armor. It protects you from the disease. It protects you from obesity, and it protects you from being insecure. When we balance our hormones, all these issues can be addressed. With more Testosterone coursing through your veins, it's easier to have a hard body. When you increase your Growth Hormone, you melt the fat away. Add to this the improved insulin sensitivity, and you will be melting fat and adding muscle simultaneously.
To reiterate, the tools you will acquire will enable you to reach your physique goals and much more. The programs outlined in this book will help you get huge, lean, or shredded, but you need to see the whole picture before we launch into the nuts and bolts of these things.
How would you like to get laid more, mi Amor?
Perhaps you're thinking that this is something you have not considered in a long time. - and for good reason. You see, your testosterone levels are not what they could be and should be. When we correct this, you will find that this part of your life has woken up again. Low sex drive problems can be turned around by restoring the testosterone levels in your body, and boy are you in for a surprise.
Rediscovering your sex life is very important. Any Men's Health magazine will tell you that your sex life is not only tremendous but forms an integral part of your masculinity and self-worth. Confidence is tied to success. You should feel confident in claiming your partner, many if you prefer. We want you to rediscover your mojo again because it's going to get you laid and help you find a mate if you don't already have one.
Throughout this book, you will see that I make a lot of references to the presence of Testosterone. T is the hallmark of manliness. For the ladies, Estrogen levels drop during the transition to menopause. This can make you less interested in sex and cause dry vaginal tissues, resulting in painful or uncomfortable sex. Although many women still have satisfying sex during menopause and beyond, some experience a lagging libido during this hormonal change. When your hormones are balanced and optimal, there can and will be a resurgence in sexual desire.
Increased Confidence
An enlightened man or woman should be able to walk into a room full of people and strike up a conversation with the most beautiful or the most interesting person in that room. When you're confident, you believe yourself to be interesting enough to hold a conversation with whom you choose. On an emotional level, this requires a belief in you. On a physiological level, it requires a virile vehicle, the gateway to which is achieved through optimizing your hormones. This isn't a wish list but rather a roadmap.
Better Sleep
According to Arianna Huffington, we live in a sleep deprivation crisis. I don't know about you, but the longer in the tooth I get, the more I struggle to fall asleep. - I kid you not. We've become a coffee-drinking, device-wielding culture with some real and many imaginary issues. The result is that sleep is not always as forthcoming as we would like. This course is going to correct this for you. When it comes to Stress, your body produces Cortisol. Insomnia is a kind of stress induced by Cortisol - It's a vicious cycle. The more you worry about not getting sleep, the more Cortisol you produce, and the more you worry... When we get your hormonal balance in check, Cortisol is relegated to the naughty corner, and you will rejuvenate your relationship with the sandman. - and that's a good thing because getting less than 6 hours a night will make you die sooner.
Stop father time at the door, in his tracks
If you produce an optimal amount of GH (and we'll show you how), then the benefits of this fountain of youth extend further than fat loss. An improved hormonal environment will slow down the visual effects of premature aging. This is why men look younger when they get older because their bodies produce more GH.
Fight Cancer, Diabetes, and Heart Disease
Poor lifestyle choices are killing us slowly every day. An overabundance of carbohydrates in our diet has turned us into sugar junkies, and as a result, we have become insulin resistant and prone to diabetes. We have combined exercise and diet to create an optimally healthy environment in the body; when you're insulin resistant, you're more inclined to contract prostate and pancreatic cancer. Both of these killers are strongly linked to your body's relationship to insulin.
When you practice intermittent fasting, you allow your body to attend to housekeeping and remove the "garbage."
As mentioned previously, this state is called Autophagy, and it protects the cells from oxidative stress. I will elaborate
Boost intelligence
Some of the most competent people in the world also happen to be some of the fittest people. This is no coincidence. You've heard people tell you that your brain is a muscle. I'm not saying that biceps curls will make you more intelligent, but it keeps your brain active and blood flowing through it.... and that's like having steroids for the brain.
People assume that slowing brain function is a natural part of aging and starts when you're around 30. Canadian scientists have found a direct correlation between boosting brain activity and warding off Alzheimer's. People who become inactive have less blood buzzing around their heads than those who train and thus remain active and sharp.
When you're stacking the lard on your hips, the blood and hormones don't get to swish around your body as quickly, and the American Academy of Neurology has cited that people, who are overweight, suffer from 22% more cognitive decline than their normally weighted counterparts.
Your diet and exercise program does go far beyond your looks and general health. It controls how well your mind works. It will keep your emotional flux under control. It will improve your chances of never falling prey to one of the debilitating neurological diseases.
Did you know that intermittent fasting protects your brain from cognitive decline?
Beat Depression
Yeah, I get it…When it’s that time of the month, the ladies can haul out the ugly stick. I’ve been on the receiving end of this many times and it’s a part of life. This does not apply only to the ladies though. Dudes also get depressed. The curve for men has been trending upward. A lack of a hormone called BDNF has been cited for feelings of loneliness, sadness, and depression. How do you increase BDNF? - You fast intermittently. Strategically timing your eating patterns will, amongst many other things, send the feel-good hormone into the hippocampus so that you feel good, even amid life's stressors.
Make More Money
Whether you like it or not, the corporate world will judge you by your appearance. Picture the hunchback of Notre Dame at a job interview... Hey, he's a charming guy and quite funny when you look past his posture, but next in line for the interview is Clark Kent. Clark is more cumbersome and may not even have such a fantastic grasp on the job position, but who do you think will get the job? If you say it's Clark, you're probably right. Whether you like it or not, the world is heavily influenced by external appearances. Research has shown that people, who are perceived as more attractive, make more money on the whole. The rugged and probably not-so-attractive truth is that the Aesthetic image you exude is influencing your ability to earn. Yeah, I’ve just pointed at an elephant in the room, but it’s true.
It boils down to the fact that the more time you spend in the gym, the greater your earning potential becomes. Besides networking, we all love a hero. What better candidate to place the burden of saving the world, or the office, than a set of broad, hero-like shoulders, man or woman?
Yip, your health is your wealth. Confidence will drive your success will build happiness and ultimately leave you a richer person in every facet of your life.
Reduce Stress
The Beatles' song, which goes something like "Money can't buy you, love, "... was probably not written in this era. Money or lack of it is perhaps the leading cause of marital problems, with divorce rates heading to the 50% mark in the US. When you're feeling out of control is when anxiety settles in. Anxiety has a physiological effect. When you're stressed, you produce more Cortisol. Cortisol is not your friend in health and wealth. Put simply, if you're stressed, you make more Cortisol. More Cortisol produces more Cortisol, leading to higher levels of Stress.
Even if Cortisol has been kicking your ass for the last few years, fear not... There are ways out. When we add lactic acid training and intermittent fasting to your exercise regime, your body will be primed to produce more GH and Testosterone, both of which will offset the problems brought about by Cortisol.
In Chapter 5, we’ll introduce you to THE GUIDE ;)
